DGNB Gold Certificate
The EAST SIDE MALL has been awarded the gold certificate by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) in the system version "Operating Buildings". The DGNB is Europe's largest network for sustainable building and evaluates buildings according to an independent, scientifically based rating system.
Several areas of sustainability are evaluated, including:
· Climate and resource protection (energy and water consumption, emissions, waste management)
· Economic efficiency and value retention
· Health and comfort for users (indoor air, thermal comfort)
· Transparency and quality of management processes
The gold award shows that NAS Real Centermanagement GmbH has achieved particularly high sustainability standards with its EAST SIDE MALL object and has established a structured process for continuous improvement.
In the future, EAST SIDE MALL aims to meet the requirements for a DGNB Platinum certification and to further expand its sustainability performance.
GO BEE – GO EAST
We are very pleased to introduce our new roommates – the Buckfast bees. In cooperation with Stadtbienen.org, two colonies of bees from the Spreewald are now making themselves comfortable in their bee boxes on our upper parking deck (facing south) and are working diligently to maintain local biodiversity and species diversity.
VERTICAL NATURE
Vertical Nature has created three breathtaking installations with real Icelandic moss in the EAST SIDE MALL - optimized indoor climate, improved acoustics, calming effect, and 100% natural. The centerpiece of the project is a 9-meter high column that extends over three floors and is covered with moss. This imposing moss column serves as an eye-catcher and gives the room a special atmosphere. The unique texture and colors of the moss form a striking contrast to the simple, modern design of the shopping center, and an organic element that invites visitors to pause and enjoy the natural beauty around them.

DGNB CERTIFICATION
The EAST SIDE MALL has been awarded the DGNB Silver Certificate by the German Sustainable Building Council. The DGNB system evaluates the three central sustainability factors: ecology, economy, and socio-cultural aspects.
In the sense of a holistic view, the DGNB system also evaluates the location as well as the technical and procedural quality.
